The best Polish swimmers at the Ice Cup Poland in Ełk

Polish Cup in Winter Swimming Ice Cup Poland will take place in Ełk already this weekend on February 20. During the competition in the Ełk Lake they will face each other leading Polish players, champions and vice-champions, and multi-medalists of the world championships. Amid m.in. Piotr Biankowski, silver medalist of the World Cup from Murmansk and at the same time the ambassador of the Ełk professions. He will try his hand also the mayor of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewicz. The most persistent will swim at a distance of 500 m and 1000 meters freestyle.

The Polish Cup in Winter Swimming will be held in Ełk only in Sunday 20 February 2022. With due to bad weather conditions forecast for Saturday 19 February (wind up to approx. 100 kh/h) the organizer decided to exclude that day from the event. Goal competition is the popularization of winter swimming, promotion of outdoor activities air, as well as conscious contact with the cold. Current water temperature in Lake Elk is about 2oC.

Ambassador of the Polish Cup in Winter Swimming Ice Cup Poland in Ełk is Piotr Biankowski - one of the best Polish extreme swimmers, who will also take part in the competition. Last year he crossed the English Channel. Is silver medalist of the World Championships from Murmansk, multiple medalist winter swimming at national and international competitions. This year before him are such challenges as circumnavigating Manhattan, relay through Baikal, perhaps Lake Titicaca in Peru.

The president of Ełk will also try his hand at the competition Tomasz Andrukiewicz, who willingly undertakes new, also extreme Challenges.

The competition will also be attended by champions and vice-champions, multi-medalists World Winter Swimming Championships:

  • from the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship: Piotr Konopacki – world champion in ice swimming in the 100 m freestyle in ice swimming, 4th place on 1000 m (2022, Głogów) and Mieszko Palmi-Kukiełko – world champion in ice swimming in the 250 m freestyle (2022 Głogów);
  • from other regions Polish in Ełk among the leading m.in: Agnieszka Stachowiak, Ola Kabelis, Michał Jagiełło, Wilhelm Gromisz, Klaudia Koczorowska, Krzysztof Kubiak, Tatiana Korona, Sabina Koj, Mirela Mazur.

The start of the competition will take place on the Area of the City Beach in Ełk at ul. Kolbe. Individual categories of professions: freestyle, classic, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle mixed relay.

Distances:

Freestyle: 25 m, 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 500 m, 1000 m (for adults)

Classic Style: 25 m, 50 m

Backstroke: 50 m

Butterfly style: 50 m

Relay: 4 x 25 m and 4 x 50 m classic style

The event is co-financed in the budget of the city of Ełk. Organizers events include Szeligi Buczki Association, Hardened Ełk and Municipal Ełk Dispute and Recreation Centre.
