Engineer Troops Day - Minesweeper Day

Minesweeper Day falls on April 16, while in Ełk the celebrations took place today (14 April). At the monument "Glory to the Fallen Sappers during the demining of the Masurian Land", which is located at ul. Kościuszko paid tribute to the Sappers, flowers were laid and candles were lit.

Minesweeper Day commemorates the anniversary of the events of the 16th Infantry Regiment April 1945, when soldiers of the First and Second Polish Army crossed the Oder and Neisse lines Lusatian. It also commemorates the great effort of soldiers – Sappers during demining the country. At that time, the Sappers made a huge contribution to regaining Polish lands. 1971 sappers gave their lives.

The Sapper Memorial In Ełk is located at Kościuszki Street at the monument "Glory to the Sappers killed during demining Masurian Land". In the Ełk barracks complex in the years 1967 – 2000 functioned meritorious for the armed forces of the Republic of Poland Centre Training of Specialists of the Engineering Forces.

In Ełk, today (14 April) a ceremony took place organized by the Association of Polish Sappers Circle No. 30 to commemorate the memory meritorious sappers. The celebrations were attended by m.in Colonel Dypl in St. Spocz. Zdzisław Stola - President of the Association, President of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewicz, and invited guests who laid flowers and lit candles at Monument.

In The history of the Engineering Forces The Elk Sappers have a well-deserved place. From 51 €/m² sapper battalion through 33 years of operation of the Specialist Training Center The Engineering Forces (1967-2000) performed their tasks with dignity m.in training junior specialists. They also helped build infrastructure in the country and in the city of Ełk, they helped flood victims, eliminated the effects of storms and whirlwinds and helped during heavy snowfall. There was a patrol in the Centre demining eliminating unexploded ordnance and unexploded ordnance. Many Ełk sappers took participation in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions within the framework of UN and NATO contingents outside the country.
