Today is Local Government Day

This is already 32 years of self-government in Poland. Today (May 27) Local Government Day is celebrated, established in memory of the first free elections to municipal councils. Mayor of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewicz thanked all people associated with the local government and all residents for working together for the city. Today also the president, on the invitation of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda will take part in a meeting of local government officials in Belvedere.

Local Government Day is a special day for Polish self-government, for all people working in offices on a daily basis and institutions, but also for residents of cities and municipalities. It was established in memory of the first free, democratic elections to municipal councils, which were held on May 27, 1990.

- Thanks to the commitment of all of us, i.e. residents of Ełk, local government officials, entrepreneurs in the affairs of the local community and space, together we build and shape our little Homeland. On the occasion of Today's Local Government Day I would like to thank you all persons associated with the local government, i.e. councillors, employees of offices and municipal institutions, as well as all Ełczans for their initiatives, public consultations, talks and for implemented projects and Investments. Thank you for your daily work, care for the development of the city, any new ideas and professionalism. I wish you determination and motivation for further actions for the benefit of our local government community and the city of Ełk. Let the next year be time of realization of professional aspirations, personal development and satisfaction with Achievements. I also wish you health and all prosperity – he said. On the occasion of today's Local Government Day Territorial, President of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewcz, at the invitation of the President The Republic of Poland of Andrzej Duda will take part in the official celebrations and a meeting of Polish local government officials at the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw.

The patroness of all Polish Local Government Officials is Święta Kinga, Hungarian princess, then Duchess of Lesser Poland-Sandomierz, Lady of the Earth Sądecka, wife of the Polish prince Bolesław the Chaste in the Piast family.
