To Ełk after many years later, military services returned. Barracks and headquarters of the Ełk Battalion of the Army Territorial Defense is located at Kościuszki Street. Objects training and logistics are located at Dolna Street, i.e. on the local military areas.

Gala the military oath was taken in Ełk by soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces, who they themselves began their service throughout Warmia and Masuria. The ceremony took place on the 23rd July on John Paul II Square.

In the event was attended by Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister National Defence and Tomasz Andrukiewicz Mayor of Ełk, who after the the celebrations met in the city hall. In the conversation, m.in were raised. issues of plans to create a new military unit in our city, the organization of its structures and the current needs in the field of defense of the region.

Return of the army to Ełk is, on the one hand, an increase in the level of security and assistance in situations crisis and, on the other hand, new jobs. WOT soldiers during the pandemic were involved in helping seniors (e.g. shopping), taking swabs for research or distribution of masks. Currently, the same soldiers are actively guarding our of the eastern border, supporting the Border Guard and the Police.
