Historical Museum in Ełk – the local government unit was established on the initiative of the president of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewicza – celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Today (15 October) the official celebration of this jubilee took place.

During the ceremony Jubilee at the museum headquarters, the President of Ełk expressed his gratitude and respect for the work done with dedication, professionalism and commitment by all museum staff. He thanked for these ten years, during whose idea to create a museum in Ełk was successfully implemented. Wished also many more reasons to be proud, good luck in all the undertaken actions, successfully continuing the difficult work of combining the past with the present and further development of the Museum.

The celebrations were combined with the opening of the educational path "What hides the old locomotive depot, or science through the senses".

A bit of history of the Historical Museum

The first seat of the museum was rooms in a tenement house at 3 Małeckich Street. First, a plenipotentiary for organization of the museum, and later the first director (in the years 2013 – 2018) was Kazimierz Bogusz.  Since 2018 the museum is located in a former station building at 1 Wąsk Tor Street. From the same year the director of the facility is Dr. Rafał Żytyniec.

Since 2014 in the structure The unit is located Ełk Narrow Gauge Railway.

Activities of the Museum

MHE's activity is primarily all dissemination of the history of Ełk and Masuria. This is done by sourcing exhibits and their conservation and recording, conducting queries concerning the history of Ełk after 1945, conducting cultural activities – educational, cooperation with cultural institutions in the field of popularization history of Ełk and Masuria, lectures and film screenings. A very important part The activity of the unit is the Ełk Narrow Gauge Railway.
