Patron Day of Ełk

This year marks the 24th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's visit to Ełk. In 2014, Saint John Paul II was established as the Patron of the City of Ełk, and June 8 as the Day of the Patron of the City Elk.
St. John Paul II is the patron of the city of Ełk
The day of the patron saint of the city falls every year on the anniversary pilgrimage of John Paul II to Ełk, i.e. June 8, 1999.
On December 23, 2013, the President of Ełk received an application signed by 4,144 residents of Ełk to initiate the procedure for the establishment of Jan Paul II patron of the City of Ełk.
In January 2014, the Ełk City Council positively gave its opinion on the residents' application to establish John Paul II as the patron of the City Elk. Councillors authorized the President and Chairman of the City Council to hand over Ełk Diocesan Curia application of residents to initiate church procedure in the Holy See. The councillors also proposed (in accordance with the request of the Elks), so that June 8 would be the Feast of the Patron of the City of Elk.
In 2014, Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline The sacraments, on the basis of the powers given by Pope Francis, recognized Saint John Paul II as the patron and intercessor with God of the splendid city Elk.
The announcement took place on 7 June 2014 on John Paul II Square during the closing ceremony of the peregrination of the Image of the Mother Our Lady of Jasna Gora in the Diocese of Ełk.
Papal Run
Municipal Sports Centre and Recreation in Ełk invites students to the Papal Run 4-7 primary school, which will take place on June 7 (Wednesday) at 10.00. Start and finish at Plac im. John Paul II.
The race will be held in the following classifications:
500m
- girls class 4.5
- boys class 4.5
800 m
- girls of class 6.7
- boys class 6.7

Concerto final winners of the recitation and vocal competition dedicated to the Patron City of Elk – Saint John Paul II.
Ełk Cultural Center invites you to the final concert winners of the recitation and vocal competition dedicated to Saint John Paul II, which will take place on June 7 (Wednesday) at 17.00 in the auditorium of the Ełk Cultural Center.
Objectives of the competition:
· deepening the knowledge of the Pope's work Pole;
· encouraging reflection on John's teaching Paul II;
· searching for and nurturing relevant spiritual values promoted by John Paul II;
· commemorating the Holy Father John Paul II;
· spreading culture;
· improving vocal skills and reciting children and young people.
Participants will be divided into the following categories Age:
· children up to 6 years of age;
· primary schools, grades I to III;
· primary schools, grades IV to VI;
· primary schools, grades VII to VIII;
· secondary schools.
