In 2023 as part of the Municipal Program for Prevention and Problem Solving Alcohol and Drug Prevention in Ełk was employed 14 – a hundred street teachers, called "street workers".

This is a deliberate activity preventive and educational, consisting in familiarizing oneself with the area of work, establishing the first contact and then building relationships between the pedagogue, and a group of street children through regular meetings and joint spending time. Streetworkers gain children's trust over time, they play together, They play, go out with children outside the district – all to show positive opportunities that the modern world offers, and to which street children have limited access.
