Today On September 20, a meeting was held at the Historical Museum in Ełk commemorating the creation of Ełk Public Transport. This year It has been 50 years since the first 2 buses left for Ełk roads. In The ceremony was attended by, m.in Deputy President of Ełk Artur Urbański and Mirosław Hołubowicz, President The Management Board of MZK Michał Kwiatkowski, as well as the current and retired employees of the plant, the Starost of the Ełk County and the Mayor Gminy Ełk. The ceremony was attended by a representative of the board Solaris Mr. Jakub Zakrzewski.

In during the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed for the late Mr. Zbigniew Chojnowski, long-time President of the Municipal Transport Department sp. z o. o. in Ełk, who passed away in December 2022.

During the ceremony, the history of Ełk Public Transport was presented by Director of MHE Dr. Rafał Żytyniec. They talked about Ełk communication also Mr. Andrzej Semeńczuk for many years Head of the Municipal Property Department and Director of PGKiM and Jan Martyński- One of the first drivers in the establishment.

Jubilee Fifty years are a good opportunity to honor people unique and meritorious for the Municipal Department of Communication. Behind 4 people were awarded many years of work for public transport gold medals and 4 silver medals. Thanks received 5 people who have retired and yet are still attached to their establishment.

Whole the event was graced by performances of children from the Municipal Kindergarten Sunny Eight and students from Primary School No. 7 from Integration Departments in a specially prepared program Artistic.

Briefly About the history of public transport in our city:
Bureau On April 5, 1973, the City National Council adopted a resolution in on the establishment of the Municipal Economy Enterprise Municipal (MPGK) in Ełk Municipal Transport Department. At that time The launch of public transport was a long-awaited for residents of Ełk.

In During the economy of the People's Republic of Poland, public transport in Ełk struggled with shortages, initially having two SAN H buses 100B, operating on the route Wojska Polskiego – Kombinat Meat.

In In 1978, public transport already had 20 buses. Years The eighties brought further development of Ełk communication urban, despite the ongoing economic and social crisis.

Extract Municipal Transport Department as an independent unit organizational took place in 1991, through the transformation of PGKiM.

In year 2007, on the basis of an existing budgetary establishment, created was a limited liability company with 100% share of the Municipality of Ełk. In the year 2008 the Municipality of Ełk joined the company.

From In 2010, MZK spółka z o.o. operates 17 bus lines, which run through the area of the City of Ełk, Ełk Commune and Stare Commune Juch. In 2011, 18 bus lines were launched.

In In 2017, the city of Ełk was granted funds from the WiM ROP for the years 2014–2020, thanks to which 6 hybrid buses of the brand were purchased Volvo. In 2021, two more Volvo buses with drive hybrid powered the MZK rolling stock. The purchase was also made thanks to funds from the RPO WiM obtained by the city of Ełk.

In In 2022, MZK in Ełk carried over 3 million passengers.

Currently MZK rolling stock is 3 3 100% low-floor buses, equipped with dynamic passenger information. In most of them are Mercedes Citaro, about 70%, but also Volvo and Iveco carrying passengers on 16 lines. MZK Sp. z o.o It employs more than 80 employees. More than half are drivers buses, including 5 women.

In In 2023, the City of Ełk received support from the National Fund Environmental Protection and Water Management. As part of the project "Green Public transport" next year will be the first to hit the roads Solaris buses with electric drive.
