Japanese Day in Ełk

Ełk The Cultural Centre invites you to the third edition of the Japanese Day in Elk. The event will take place on November 18, 2023 at 10:00 – 18:00.

In The Land of the Rising Sun will turn into the Ełk Cultural Centre on 18 November through film screenings, lectures, workshops, theatre and photography exhibitions.

In In the lobby of ECK, fans of Japanese pop culture will be able to visit the Katon store from Bialystok, where you will be able to buy manga, figurines and other Gadgets. Japanese refreshments will be provided on this day by Akwarela Caffe.

10:00 –12:00 – Manga drawing workshop with Szymon Teluk (I group)

12:15 –2:15 p.m . – Manga drawing workshop with Szymon Teluk (II group)

Workshop linocut – a technique similar to woodcut, but easier to performed for people starting their artistic adventure. In During the workshops, participants will learn about the linocut technique and make their own Japanese-inspired painting. Everything under the supervision of instructor Wiesław Kulik.

1:30 p.m. – "The magic of kamishibai theatre" – presentation of fairy tales and Results of the competition | free admission | Chamber Hall

Theatre kamishibai is a Japanese theatrical form that originated from the tradition of street theatres. The name "kamishibai" literally It means "picture theatre". It is a kind of visual narrative, in which where the story is told by means of illustrated boards placed in a special wooden box (butai).

On presentation of competition works made by school students Secondary ECK invites children, adolescents and adults. You will be able to listen to and see the stories they have created inspired by Japan and decide on the winning entry.

3:30 p.m. – Post-workshop performance "Japanese fairy tale" | Unlimited age | free admission | Zebra Room

Show "Japanese Fairy Tale" performed by young participants theatre workshops. This will be an opportunity to get acquainted with beautiful Japanese fairy tales, still little known in Poland.

Exhibition "40 Views of Japan" is a journey through an extraordinary The diversity and beauty of the Land of the Rising Sun. Presents the diversity of landscapes, culture and spirit of this country: from majestic temples, where spirituality is intertwined with architecture, through picturesque streets full of mysterious shops and Japanese artisans, up to the magnificent landscapes of nature.

In The film shows, m.in, the works of contemporary photographers and photographers, mixing with traditional geisha and neon lights the lights of Tokyo discos.
