In view of the the entry into force of the new legislation adopted by the Sejm and the Polish Senate "in the law on the maintenance of cleanliness and order in municipalities', absolute obligation to collect waste in a selective manner and new rules for the collection of waste waste segregation, which is uniform throughout Poland.

What so really changing?

In climate change, waste segregation is important for environmental protection. Together with the the entry into force of the Regulation throughout Poland will take effect Common Waste Sorting System (WSSO), which aims to harmonise the waste segregation systems in individual municipalities. The system introduces a division of waste on fractions and the marking of containers or containers for their Storage:

1.    glass waste - green container or marked with green sticker - glass
2. paper waste - a container of blue or marked blue sticker - paper
3. waste sofas, plastics - yellow container or marked with a yellow sticker - metals and Plastics
4. biodegradable waste – brown container or marked with a brown sticker - bio
5. residual waste - a container of black or marked black sticker - residual waste

This means that that it will not be possible to declare non-separate collection of waste.

From June 1 in single-family housing, the transfer of waste for collection to the export company in the bags (but in the appropriate colours) or in any but marked sticker (or inscription) of containers, suggesting the fraction to be collected.

As of 1 July 2022 (i.e. in 2 years) all containers will also have to have the following color scheme:

• glass – greencontainer ,
• paper – bluecontainer ,
• metals and plastics – yellowcontainer ,
• for biodegradable waste – browncontainer ,
• for mixed waste, the so-called (not suitable for any of the above fractions) – a container of black.

In addition, containers will be able to have colored stickers with faction information.

Residents received information packages on changes in the area of waste management system and the proper segregation of waste, in the form of:

• Brochures
• stickers for homemade garbage cans, which will be a form of hint scan segregating household waste
• on the radio, at stops, buses, social media, we are already posting more materials information and education for adults, children and young people
• prepared also smartphone app "Ełk segregates", which will help to support the correct separate collection of municipal waste. The application will be downloaded on the mobile phones from the App Store (available at the end of May) and Google Play.

Throwing let's remember not only which containers we throw individual waste, but also how plastic bottles should be prepared or cans by crushing them, so that it is then easier to subject them to the correct Recycled.

Forms declarations – we will submit waste declarations after 10 will be available for download in June on the city's website elk and at the Ełk City Hall. Waste rates for residents will change july 2020.
