Urban celebration 81. the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II will take place next Tuesday, September 1. In Elk, the festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m. 12:00 Mass in the Church of st. Sacred Heart of Jesus. Then there will be official celebrations under the monument "Heroic Soldiers of September".

September 1, 1939 - German attack poland and the beginning of World War II. At 4:45 a.m., a German battleship school "Schleswig-Holstein" began shelling Westerplatte, Military Transit Warehouse in the Free City of Gdansk, defended by the crew (about 200 soldiers) under the command of mjr. Henryk Sucharski and Capt. Franciszek Dabrowski. For 7 days, she heroly fought back against the repeated german attacks from the sea, land and air, becoming a symbol of the Polish Resistance.

World War II lasted six years and has absorbed 72 million lives. By the end of the war, 61 countries, out of 67 existing ones at the time.
