To your MHE collection joined by further acquisitions are 2 elek notgeldy with denominations 1 million brands and 1 million brands with 50 billion brands printed. Banknotes date back to 1923.

Notgeld is german name of the substitute money, usually issued at the beginning of the 20th century. Age. This money was not issued by the central bank, but by the institutions, such as private banks, businesses, municipalities, or Mines. Notgeld mostly took the form of a banknote.

Residents will be may see the banknotes on 15 May during the European Museum Night. Planned is then a demonstration of MHE acquisitions.

Reminder also about the current exhibition in the MHE "Treasure from the Main Street". Treasure or more than 681 17th-century coins were discovered by members of the Historical- exploration "Jaćwież" in heaps of land originating from the Main Street (now Ul. Polish Army). To date, this is the largest archaeological discovery in history of Elk and probably the largest treasure in Poland. The Treasury was declared "The Largest Archaeological Sensation of the Year 2020".
