On this day, we show our solidarity with people with trisomy 21. This is often accompanied by various actions to raise public awareness of the the needs and lives of people with Down syndrome.

The symbol of this day are, m.in, the colourful, non-matching to each other socks. People all over the world wear two different ones on this day socks to show your understanding and support for people with Down syndrome and their families.

What is Down syndrome?

This is a syndrome of congenital defects caused by the presence of additional genetic material - chromosome 21. The name of this unit has been taken from the name of the English physician John Langdon Down, who described a band in 1866.
