Alarm sirens. What does a modulated signal mean and what does continuous? What is the content of the warning messages broadcast in the measures mass media (radio, television, Internet)? How to behave after hearing an alarm or message? Learn more.

One of the elements that sustain the feeling Safety of residents of cities and municipalities is knowledge of the basic types alarm sounds and rules of behavior in a crisis situation. Ability their interpretation makes it possible to avoid stress in a situation when in the city suddenly sirens will howl. Emergency alert and message broadcasting warning is one of the tasks implemented by the Civil Defence Division and takes place according to the adopted procedures to ensure that information can be effectively reached.

Alarms are announced via:

  • Signal sound – modulated siren sound lasting three minutes;
  • Messages broadcast by means mass media (with the reason and type of alarm)
  • Characters visual – yellow triangle (or in justified cases another geometric figure).

Cancellation of alarms takes place via:

  • Signal sound – a continuous siren sound lasting three minutes;
  • Messages broadcast by means mass media (with the reason and type of alarm).

Warning messages (announcement and appeal) shall be transmitted by means of the mass media. There are three types of messages:

  • threat contamination (specifying the area, time, type of contamination)
  • threat infections (the form and content are determined by the State Inspectorate Sanitary)
  • Disaster natural and environmental hazard (specifying the type of threat, time of occurrence, area).

After hearing an alarm signal or a message broadcast on radio, television, and The Internet (e.g. websites and social media) should be done quickly, but prudently and without panic, as well as carry out the orders of emergency services, authorities and civil protection authorities.

Remember:

  • if you hear the sound of an alarm siren, turn on the radio or TV on local station, listen to the threat messages and follow the Commands
  • check the places of stay of household members and people from the immediate environment, inform them about the danger,
  • when you are away from home, contact your loved ones by informing them about the situation, the place of his stay and the manner of further contact,
  • do not panic, give an example of rational behavior.
