VII International Siegfried Lenz Literary Competition

Urban The Zofia Nasierowska Public Library in Ełk invites you to participation in this year's edition of the Siegfried Literary Competition Lenza. The event was held under the patronage of the President of the City of Ełk. Recruitment literary works have already started and will last until June 3, 2023.

Started call for works in the VII International Literary Competition Siegfried Lenz, which takes place under the patronage of the President City of Elk. The condition for participation in the competition is to send works until 03 June 2023. The prize pool in the competition is 10 000 PLN


Track must be your own work, not yet published and not awarded in other Competitions.

Must be completely original and not contain alterations of others Tracks.

Requirements concerning the volume of the work is: a minimum of 10,000 characters, and Up to 30,000 characters.

Track must be sent only in electronic form – open text files

(in files: doc ); Works submitted in other formats will not be qualified to participate

in Competition.


In In 2022, 62 works from Poland and abroad were submitted to the competition.

The winners were:

  • 1 place Patryk Zalaszewski for "Despite God"

  • 2 place Małgorzata Szczecina for "Cucumbers"

  • 3 place Michał Kaźmierczak for "On Grandmother's Dying"

Highlight Received:

  • Isabella Degórska for "Oblivion"

  • Karolina Awarded for "White Cradles of Europe"

  • May Marta Piekarska for "Perhaps the end of August is equally pleasant."


Goal the competition is to increase interest in the written word, contemporary literature.

Creature opportunities to appreciate and popularize valuable creativity debutants.

Promotion cities - and thus also the promotion of the creativity of residents.

Encourage young people to express their emotions, feelings, beliefs, judgments in literature,

promotion mutual understanding.


Siegfried Lenz

Outstanding German writer born in 1926 in Ełk, died in 2014 in Hamburg. Author of "Museum of the Homeland", "German Lesson", "Sweet Sulejki".

In On 18 October 2011, Siegfried Lenz received the title in Ełk Honorary citizen of the city. The ceremony was attended by almost 300 guests from Polish and abroad.
