The main objective of the project entitled: "Digital Treasure Ełk: digitization and sharing of the collection of coins from the 17th century found in the city of Ełk" is to create digital images coins of the Ełk Treasury (high-resolution photos allowing for view of the coins in significant magnification) and make them available free of charge images on the website of the Historical Museum in Ełk (creation of online gallery).

The task envisages the digitisation and making available 671 coins from the collection of the Historical Museum in Ełk. The resources will be made available at: cyfrowezbiory.muzeum.elk.pl

In addition, the images of the 50 most important coins will be made available on the Kronik@ Portal (kronika.gov.pl) and reported to the to the Digital Libraries Federation.

Program The Digital Culture aims to make available and enable the re-emergence of the use of digital resources, including the development and digitisation of cultural heritage resources for the purposes of popularisation, education and Scientific.

The project of the Historical Museum in Ełk received co-financing in the amount of PLN 106,000 from the "Digital Culture" programme Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The Treasure of Ełk

In June 2020, members of the Association Historical and Exploratory "Yatvez" found 680 coins from the seventeenth century. The find was discovered in heaps of earth removed from the pavement of Wojska Polskiego Street in Ełk.

The Ełk Treasure has been recognized by National Geographic for one of the ten most important archaeological discoveries in Poland of the last decade.
