Monographic study of the Ełk treasure

The Ełk Treasure will be monographic study. The Historical Museum in Ełk has acquired over PLN 35,000 co-financing for the preparation and publication of a book containing elaboration of the hoard of coins and photographic documentation. The Museum implements as well as a project to digitize and make available a collection of coins found in Ełk.

The Historical Museum in Ełk received PLN 35,500 co-financing from the programme Protection of Archaeological Monuments from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for the implementation of the project "Treasure coins from the seventeenth century from Ełk – analysis of research results and publication of a book".

The aim of the task is to monographic elaboration of a treasure trove of coins from the seventeenth century from Ełk. The team discovered in 2020 counts Almost 700 copies, varied in terms of origin and denominations. In 2023, they underwent conservation and composition analysis elemental material. In 2024, the treasure will undergo numismatic analysis. The results of the 2023 study and the numismatic analysis will contribute to the contribute to the development of studies on the modern money circulation of Ducal Prussia and mint production carried out by the Swedes in the 17th century in Livonia.

As a result of the implementation of the project, there will be a book containing a full study of the treasure along with documentation selected copies.

Digitize and share Coin harvesting – implementation of the project

The Historical Museum has also started the implementation of the project entitled "Digital Treasure of Ełk: digitization and sharing of the collection coins from the seventeenth century found in the city of Ełk", the aim of which is to creation of digital images of the coins of the Ełk Treasury. The Historical Museum on The implemented project also received funding from the Ministry of Finance. Culture and National Heritage.

For the implementation of the projects, the Historical Museum obtained PLN 106,000 co-financing from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture – a state special purpose fund.
