From 15 August, schools, kindergartens, institutions and organisations working with children and young people must have implemented and announced standards for protection of minors. This requirement is a consequence of the entry into force of the provisions the so-called Kamilka Act, passed in July 2023 after the tragic death of an eight-year-old Kamilka from Częstochowa, who was tortured by his stepfather. Introduces m.in. the obligation to implement standards for the protection of minors, i.e. procedures in the event of observing symptoms in the child that may be the effect of abuse, whether mental, physical or physical, or consequence of sexual abuse.

In view of the above, the Mayor of the City of Ełk introduced a On August 8, 2024, the Standards for the Protection of Minors in the Ełk City Hall. It is a document that contains a set of rules that help you create safe and a friendly environment in entities acting for the benefit of children. They also have protect the youngest from harm, neglect or exploitation. The primary purpose of introducing standards is to define the principles of, m.in building, safe adult-child and child-child relationships, as well as the conduct of situations where the child's welfare is at risk.

The guiding principle of actions taken by employees of the Ełk City Hall is to act for the good of the child and in his or her best Interest. Each employee treats the child with respect and takes into account his or her needs. It is unacceptable for anyone to use it against a child violence in any form. Employees perform their tasks and act within the framework of applicable law and its competences.
