Renovation of the stele of soldiers of the German army killed during World War I

Municipality City Ełk is implementing a task that received funding in the amount of PLN 84,800 from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Fund from the Culture Promotion Fund – the state special purpose fund for the task entitled: "Renovation of the steles of the German army soldiers killed during World War I".

On 18 September 2024, an agreement was signed No. 03861/24/FPK/DDZ concerning the co-financing of tasks under the Government Programme "War Graves and Cemeteries in the Country" from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Fund from the Culture Promotion Fund. The contract with the Contractor for the renovation of 119 soldiers' steles as part of the task entitled "Renovation of the steles of German army soldiers killed during World War I" was signed on 27 September 2024

The task was given to co-financing from the Minister's funds Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state special-purpose fund in the amount of PLN 84,800.

The steles are located in the war part of the cemetery at Cmentarna Street in Ełk. Scope The task includes renovation works consisting of, among others:

  • verticalization of the selected stele,
  • cleaning of moss, lichens and discoloration caused by weather conditions,
  • filling in the gaps in the stele (concrete repair), and in the case of one cracked stele, reconstruction (gluing, supplementation with repair concrete),
  • making the data on the buried soldiers,
  • protection of the stele surface appropriate chemicals

and installation of a board informing about the source of financing of the project.

The work aims to draw attention to the Residents' comments that it is necessary to strive to preserve war graves. These activities They will allow them to be saved from oblivion and to cultivate history. Keeping this A facility in good condition is an example for all ages to take care of the for the dignity of the resting place of every human being. Well-maintained and properly maintained war cemetery of various nationalities is a testimony of respect for the every person. Leaving the stele without renovation may cause irretrievable damage and oblivion. Value The total task is PLN 101,657.40. Completion of works According to the signed agreement, it is to take place in December 2024.
