Female cancers, such as breast cancer and cervical cancer, are still one of the most common causes of death among women. Although medicine offers effective treatment, the key to success is early detection of the disease. That is why regular prophylaxis, available free of charge and without a referral, is so important. Find out when and where you can have a mammogram or cytology – this is a step that can save your life or the life of a loved one.

Breast cancer – get tested regularly!

Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women. In Poland, more than 18,500 new cases are diagnosed each year. In the early stages, the disease does not give symptoms, which is why regular prevention is so important.

The basic test under the program is mammography, which allows you to detect lesions as small as 2-3 mm.

The test is free of charge:

  • every 24 months for women aged 45–74,

  • every 12 months for women aged 45-74 who have undergone breast cancer treatment and are undergoing monitoring or hormone therapy.

Risk factors for breast cancer:

  • genetic predisposition (BRCA1, BRCA2),

  • early first menstruation, late menopause,

  • late motherhood or childlessness,

Where to perform the test?
In stationary clinics and mobile mobile mammography buses.

Every day, 10 Polish women are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and half of them lose the fight against the disease because it is detected too late. Meanwhile, early detected cancer gives as much as a 99.9% chance of cure.

Pap smear test is a quick, painless and free test that should be performed regularly.

The examination is available to:

  • every 36 months for women aged 25–64,

  • every 12 months to women at risk (e.g. infected with HPV, HIV, immunosuppressed).

Main risk factors:

  • HPV infection,

  • Smoking

  • early start of sex life,

  • multiple sexual partners,

  • previous abnormalities in cytology.

Where to perform the test?
In gynaecological clinics with a contract with the National Health Fund and selected primary care clinics.
A referral is not required.
