Sapper Day is a special date in the Polish calendar – celebrated since 1946, it reminds us of the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers of the Army Polish Army, who crossed the Oder and Neisse Rivers and they cleared mines after World War II. It is also a day when local communities, like the one in Ełk, gather to express gratitude to those who They often risked their lives for the safety of others.

This year's celebrations were attended by m.in deputy Mirosław Hołubowicz, representatives of the local government, institutions educational institutions and social organisations. There were also representatives of the Army Polish Army, military organizations. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of: 1007 Ełk Rifle Unit, Uniformed Education Centre, University of Silesia Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and the University of the Third Age. The ceremony, organized by the Sappers Association Polish Branch No. 30 and the 44th Light Infantry Battalion, included m.in. setting up a guard of honour, playing the sapper anthem, speeches occasional celebrations and laying flowers and lighting candles at the monument.
